Amaruq mini sculpt is complete!
almost 2 years ago – Sat, Jun 11, 2022 at 04:10:40 AM

Crosslances has finished the sculpt, and it's really something.

We also have a preview of how it will look in translucent blue.

I'll get a painted version as soon as I'm able!

Correcting an accidental omission on our part
almost 2 years ago – Mon, Jun 06, 2022 at 11:06:57 PM

We regret that we didn't make this abundantly clear at the start of the campaign, and would like to take this time to do so. The variant cover is foil.

The stars and wisps in particular will shine through. We hope this comes as good news to everyone, and apologize if you feel misled - this certainly was never the intent. There's a lot going on, and we simply neglected to make it clear from the start.

First stretch goal unlocked!
almost 2 years ago – Mon, Jun 06, 2022 at 02:36:55 PM

What can we say? We literally couldn't do it without all of you. The support you've all shown our little comic is amazing, and we can't thank you enough. Because of everyone, we just unlocked our first stretch goal!

In case you missed the first update, we got in contact with Crosslances early because we were pretty confident in this first stretch goal after funding on day 1. Just a couple hours before we cleared the stretch goal, he sent over a couple preview images.

These are the first progress shots, so it's about as rough as it can get, but we thought it was definitely good enough to show at this stage.

Now for the matter of pricing. While Amaruq is certainly bigger than Mara, he's roughly the same level of detail, which means the model cost us the same amount to produce in STL format. For this reason, the STL add-on will be the same as the Mara STL add-on - $5. When it comes to producing the physical model, our costs primarily come from the amount of material used. Also, we've elected to have the physical model in translucent blue, raising the cost slightly more. We'll be pricing the physical model at $15.

When it comes to painting a model, there are three factors that determine the difficulty - the size, the level of detail, and the color palette. Amaruq is certainly bigger, and will have similar detail level to Mara's model, but has a much simpler and more limited color palette. Getting a good level of contrast on what is effectively a monochrome paint scheme is going to be tricky, but ultimately not a bigger job than painting Mara. The hand painted models will also be $100.

As far as other stretch goals go, no changes on chapter 2 - it's just closer than it was before. But we are revealing the hidden stretch goal now. If we reach $5000, we will also print issue #1 in Mandarin (Traditional Chinese).

The variant cover will also be available in Mandarin. We'll be taking the time between now and then to work out the best way to let backers select their preferred language.

Revealing one goal means teasing another.

Once again, thank you for joining Mara - and us - on this journey!

Update #2: preparing the hand painted minis
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Jun 03, 2022 at 05:28:07 AM

Dylan again. A quick update today. My wife advised me to not wait until the end of the campaign to start painting. The hand painted mini add-on was popular enough to sell out fast, and there's another one coming with the first milestone, so she's probably right.

They just went through the first cleaning and are drying before the cure. More updates when I have something interesting for you all to look at!

Once again, we can't possibly thank you enough for your overwhelming support on our first comic. We're learning every day from this, and issue #2 will have an even better one (that won't launch before we fulfill the first).

Funded in just under 24 hours!
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Jun 03, 2022 at 04:13:36 AM

23 hours and 8 minutes, to be precise! We'd like to take this moment to thank you all for your tremendous support. It's been a journey already, but we're not done yet. There are some stretch goals ahead of us that we'd like to talk about.

Due to how supportive you've all been, we're talking to Crosslances again sooner than anticipated for another miniature. This one's going to be a bit bigger. "Large" in D&D terms, but here's the size comparison for a better idea:

He's a big boy. At the time of typing this, there's just one remaining painted Mara mini add-on to claim. It's been so popular that if we unlock this stretch goal, we'll add another add-on for a hand painted Amaruq mini. We can't promise when exactly this will be ready to show off, since Crosslances has to create it, the printing has to be tested, and Dylan has to paint it, but we'll do our best to get the gears moving quickly.

Next up is this one:

We've been working on it already, and actually just finished page 38 yesterday. Yes, it's a bigger comic than the first, and if we unlock this goal, every backer will receive the PDFs at no extra cost. Your other rewards will be delivered first, as this will take the longest to complete.

Questions? Comments? We read them all and answer as best we can. Once again, we cannot possibly thank you all enough for your overwhelming support.
